Untying Disappointment
Thank you to all who could make it last night! We were hungry because the veggie burgers (and chick patties) didn't last long and the french fries and tater tots didn't either - we had to keep making more!
The fun or uh, craziness started afterwards. Katelyn Kim and Chris Alvarez were each tied up by their respective teams with almost 200 feet of rope. (Yes, they are brave individuals.) Then they were hoisted up by their teammates and rushed through the race-maze across the church, down into the basement, and back up to the dining hall. It was a close race! The winners won by only 8 seconds!
All this led up to our Bible study on "Dealing with Disappointment." This world could be described with a word that really is a synonym for this broken planet too: "Disappointment." We all have experienced it already. Jesus promised in John 16:33 we would keep experiencing it. But He added, "Be of good cheer. I have overcome the world." We don't have to stay tied up by disappointment! Christianity is the only thing that promises that when we are weak we really are strong and that Jesus' power rests on us in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:8-10). God is protecting us even in times of disappointment (Isaiah 43:1-2) and is orchestrating everything happening to us to turn out for our good (Romans 8:28). Disappointment if not dealt with can lead to discouragement, disillusionment, depression and ultimately defeat. But we have a way of escape from these deadly D's - Deciding to stay connected with Jesus Christ our Deliverer. And soon He will deliver! He will permanently untie all our troubles!
Hope to see you next week! It's my favorite meal: Make-your-own pizza!
